Porcelain & Sandstone Patios in Shrewsbury & Shropshire

Porcelain and Indian sandstone patios, paths and steps for homes in Shrewsbury, Wem, Oswestry, Telford and Ellesmere – planned, prepared and laid properly so they stay level and drain well.

Patios built to last

A patio is only as good as what's underneath it. Most problems people ask us to fix – sunken slabs, rocking paving, puddles, or water running towards the house – come from poor preparation rather than the paving itself.

The Green Team digs out to the right depth, builds a compacted sub-base, sets the levels and falls so rainwater runs away from the house, and lays the paving with neat cuts, edging and pointing. We help you choose from supplier brochures, then order and manage the materials for you.

Patio options

We'll talk through what suits your home, your garden and how you use it.

Porcelain patios

Porcelain is hard-wearing, stain-resistant and easy to keep clean, with a crisp, modern finish. Outdoor porcelain is usually 20mm thick and laid on a full bed.

Indian sandstone patios

Natural sandstone has a varied colour and texture that suits traditional homes and cottage gardens. It weathers naturally over time.

Planning a new patio

Things worth knowing before you choose:

  • Height and damp: a patio next to the house should sit well below the damp-proof course (commonly at least 150mm below) and fall away from the walls, so rain can't splash or run into the house.
  • Drainage: on heavy clay or low-lying ground, water needs somewhere to go. Falls, edging and, where needed, a drainage channel are planned before any paving is laid.
  • Porcelain or sandstone: porcelain stays the same colour and is very easy to clean; sandstone has a natural look but varies from slab to slab and can weather. Seeing samples in your garden's light helps.
  • Front gardens: in England, a new or replaced hard surface of more than five square metres in a front garden must be permeable (for example gravel or permeable block paving) or drain onto a lawn or border – otherwise planning permission is needed.

We go through these points at the free site visit, and your fixed written quotation sets out exactly what is included.
