Landscaping & Garden Services in Wem

Landscaping, patios, gravel and block paving driveways, hedge cutting and garden clearance for homes in Wem and the villages of north Shropshire.

Landscapers serving Wem and north Shropshire

Wem is a market town north of Shrewsbury, and the homes we're asked about range from older properties in the town to cottages and houses in the surrounding villages with long drives, larger gardens and hedged boundaries. Those gardens often need practical work as much as design: a driveway that copes with the weather, a patio that drains, or a hedge brought back under control.

The Green Team can take on a single job or a whole garden – groundwork and levels, patios and paths, gravel or block paving driveways, turf, sleepers and planting areas – and we take the waste away when we finish.

We also look after gardens that are already established: hedge cutting and reductions, grass cutting, tree pruning and clearing gardens that have become overgrown.

Gravel & block paving driveways

Gravel is often a practical, permeable choice for longer drives; block paving gives a neat, hard-wearing finish closer to the house. Both are built on a properly excavated base.

Planning a garden project in Wem: things worth knowing

Points that often come up on Wem and north Shropshire jobs:

  • Longer drives: on bigger plots the cost of a driveway is mostly in the excavation and base, not the surface. Gravel with firm edging is usually cheaper than block paving over a long distance.
  • Hedges and nesting birds: it's an offence to damage or destroy an active bird's nest, so hedges should be checked before cutting, especially from March to August. Big reductions are often best planned for autumn or winter.
  • Ground and drainage: heavier soils can stay wet for long periods. Getting the sub-base and drainage right matters more than the paving you pick.
  • Paving a front garden: in England, a new or replaced hard surface of more than five square metres in a front garden must be permeable (for example gravel or permeable block paving) or drain onto a lawn or border – otherwise planning permission is needed.
  • Dropped kerbs: a new driveway entrance that crosses the pavement needs permission from Shropshire Council before the kerb can be lowered.

We talk these points through at the free site visit, so your quotation reflects your garden rather than a guess.

Wem landscaping questions

Do you cover the villages around Wem?

Yes – we work in Wem and the surrounding north Shropshire villages. Tell us where you are when you enquire and we'll confirm.

Is the site visit free?

Yes. We visit, measure up and check access, levels and drainage free of charge, and there's no obligation.

Gravel or block paving for my drive?

It depends on the length of the drive, how it's used and how it drains. Gravel is usually cheaper over a long distance and naturally permeable; block paving is tidier and easier to sweep. We'll talk through both at the visit.

Can you cut back a hedge that has got out of hand?

Yes. We do routine hedge cutting and larger reductions, and clear the cuttings away. Hedges need checking for nesting birds first, so timing may depend on the season.
